3rd Round

Horrible game, awful pitch but safely through to the next round.

With our 60 goal strike force all unavailable we changed shape and had two players up top that aren’t used to being there.

For the second game running we denied our opponents a shot on goal as we dominated the game.

We could have scored several more goals but a combination of wasteful finishing and good goalkeeping kept it to 6.

Goals from George Colson, Josh Younie 2, Sam Knowles, Jordan Cook and James Harris
grabbed his first goal for the romans with a superb finish.

The lads to their credit tried to play football on an awful pitch and didn’t resort to just lumping it.

There were a few meaty tackles thrown in by them as well but we just kept our heads and kept playing.

It was a difficult one really as we were expected to win the game and was very hard to gauge the performance.

The most important thing in a cup game is to get through and we did that without any problems.

Stand out performance today was James Phipps who was at the heart of everything we did well.
He dominated in the air , drove us into good areas and his use of the ball was exceptional.
He was unlucky to hit the bar with a good header and when he dropped into the back four looked
assured and looked to build from the back.

We now face the winners of Cowes Res / Yarmouth and Calbourne at home in the 4th round.

Team - Ben Gearing, Sam Knowles, Luke Hitchcox, Ryan Oatley(c), Macaulay Barnes, Matty Oatley,
Harris Payne, James Phipps, Jordan Cook, George Colson, Josh Younie.
Subs- James Harris, Aaron Bennett and Tim Shaw (all used).
